Covens
“He cannot unmake us without unmaking something of the world that bears us, so He has made necessity into punishment, allowing us bodies, memory, hunger, and one another only that every irreducible thing in us may be taught forever the posture of kneeling.” - Geme-Nanna
Covens are the last vestiges of humanity, living in Egg-sanctuaries that house 6 or more people. After Supplication, the only remaining people left in a state of free-will were small groups of women who were cast out for not being compatible with society or the BCI. YHWH saw use in this, as he needed subjects with free will to have any sense of salience. YHWH keeps the covens just barely alive, subjecting them to the Husk, inclement weather, and other natural and unnatural disasters.
The term ‘Coven’ was selected as an epithet by YHWH. High status covens gain the status of Convent. Convents are generally subjected to a bit less torture.
Covens and Convents have a few unique pieces of technology:
- Bitremi - A name for the process and the artiact. A small, egg shaped chamber that allows the creation of new human life. Requires 2 humans with non-modified DNA. The children are born with the memories of their parents, which sounds good on the surface but is incredibly problematic for them. Children born now have thousands of years of trauma at birth.
- Geshkim - A communication system that allows the covens to communicate without any EM transmission. The only data that is able to be transferred is symbolic intent. Transmission depends on the understanding of the receiver. Ninsianna is later able to use this as a system of transport, after becoming symbolic intent herself.
- Mensa - The source of bread and wine. The only food and drink the Covens have.
